About the Area: Alfred is a small village located in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains. The area is surrounded by farms and forests with numerous species of wildlife, and offers many opportunities for a variety of outdoor activities. Outdoor activities include hiking, fishing, golfing, hunting, horseback riding, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, snow mobiling, and bicycling. Two colleges provide numerous academic opportunities plus many cultural offerings throughout the year. Local area festivals and offerings throughout the year include the Wellsville Balloon Rally, Hot Dog Day, Wellsville trout derby, the Allegany County Fair, the Allegany Artisans tour, the Arkport Summer Fest, the Andover July 4th Celebration, parade and fireworks, Angelica Heritage Days, Alfred community band concerts in the park, AU carillon concerts, several museums, and the Terra Cotta community picnic. Beautiful scenery and a charming small town atmosphere make the Alfred area a delightful place to visit and enjoy a restful getaway. Restaurants are close by in Alfred, Hornell, and Wellsville. Antique shops are in Alfred Station, Wellsville, and Angelica. Shopping opportunities are available in nearby Wellsville and Hornell. Inn Description: Beautiful log home located in quiet rural area only 3 minutes from the campuses of Alfred University and SUNY Alfred. Near cross country ski/hiking trails, bike shop, local restaurants, gift and antique shops, golf courses, genealogy resources, and International Museum of Ceramics. Small fishing pond on property. One hour to Corning Glass Works and Museum, Naples, Canandaguia Lake, Rochester, Olean. Innkeepers are a middle-aged couple with married children and six grandchildren.
